Jimmy Choo Crystals

We were asked to consider how to create a series of large transparent crystals to emulate the crystals hanging from the famous designer shoes. Easy we thought until we remembered that the materials we needed to use only came in clear and opal. By then we had the order so we needed to think a bit out of the “shoebox”

|A few years back we had played around with dyeing acrylic for another project and while that project never developed, our knowledge of acrylic dyeing was still intact. After creating the faceted moulds for the various different sizes, we set about playing with different dyes, times, temperatures and colour mixes to achieve the perfect colour before settling on this beautiful shade of lilac. The moulds and the acrylic lecturns were all dyed shades of pink and lilac to match the specs, joined together and finished off with carefully manufactured chromed JC logos and stalks. The result was very effective glass clear lilac crystals that picked up on the interior lighting to give the appearance of oversized crystal “dice” on an oversized car rearview mirror.
