Window of opportunity for Talbot Designs and Triton Building Restoration
Specialist property restorer, Triton Building Restoration, was called in by a major client to deal with a rather significant challenge: a head office building required refurbishment to its 550 window sills without causing major disruption to the building or to its workforce.
Triton Building Restoration’s Contracts Manager, Sandeep Kumar, conceived the ideal solution. He commissioned Talbot Designs Ltd, London-based bespoke plastics fabricators, to create tailor-made covers for the sills to encase the old sill entirely. Talbot created the sill cladding in expanded foamex to produce an attractive, durable matt finish. The project, in East Croydon, is about to be completed.
Sandeep Kumar says: “With this solution we managed to encapsulate the old sills easily and relatively inexpensively. Most importantly there was minimal disruption to the users of the building. We put the tender out to a number of fabricators and Talbot Designs were selected. They created a good finish and we were pleased with the job. The solution avoided a great deal of cost as well as hassle for the client providing a good resolution to a potentially tricky problem”.
This was an innovative, custom-made solution for a one-off problem. The challenge was that the sills varied in size across all eight floors and so the sill covers had to be tailor-made to suit these varying sizes. Each floor had a different scale of sill but then on each floor the individual windows varied very slightly so that each cover was made individually. Few companies could tackle such precision, bespoke manufacturing but Talbot Designs specialize in exactly this kind of challenge.
