Selfridges Rounds Up the Spirit of Christmas with Talbot Designs’ Domes

Talbot domes house a variety of designs in the window of the store.
Talbot Designs Ltd, the leading UK manufacturer of acrylic domes (brand-name: Teedy Domes), have a rather high profile showcase for these products with assorted spheres adorning several of Selfridges’ Christmas window displays in London’s West End.
Large enough to accommodate evening gowns and coats and small enough to showcase shoes and bags, the domes have been encased in hand-woven steel cable with each window uniquely designed to display the luxury fashion items.
Carlotta Jacoby, Production Assistant Manager for Selfridges, said: “Talbot produced good sketches of what they were going to produce which was brilliant. Each sphere arrived with us fully assembled so all we had to do was to unscrew the seams, insert the merchandise, and reassemble. We are really pleased with the results. The domes are good quality and showcase these items perfectly”.
In addition to bespoke items, Talbot Designs Ltd can supply 20 stock sizes of Teedy Domes at even more competitive prices. The stock domes are kept in stock for an immediate 24-hour despatch. The introduction of new equipment and innovative techniques earlier this year (2008) has enabled Talbot to pass on cost savings on to its customers.
Talbot Designs’ Managing Director, Richard Woolff, said: “Whether the need is for giant domes for impressive retail window displays, medium-sized containers for goods, half-spheres for wall displays or hundreds of smaller spheres or baubles to string within the store, the dome is one of the most versatile and cost-effective display options for retailers.
“Some fabricated domes can be of a variable standard but Talbot concentrates on creating precise hemispheres in high quality materials so that the visibility through the plastic is optically clear. Talbot’s investment in new machinery means that creating large numbers of domes is quicker and cheaper, without compromising the normal high quality. Talbot, based in North London for over 60 years, will despatch Teedy Domes within 24 hours of the order being received anywhere in the world.
Richard Woolff, added: “The versatility of our domes is only limited by imagination. Teedy domes have already been used for hundreds of different applications. Our bespoke plastic mouldings are often commissioned by major retailers and by store groups. Selfridges’ stunning Christmas windows are just one example of the many uses to which Talbot’s domes are put. One year, our domes were strung across the road as part of the Regent Street Christmas decorations and another year we supplied the design team working with Liberty (Regent Street), a series of mirrored and clear spheres that were hung in the three atria”.
Producing over 1000 domes for a single retailer is not unusual for Talbot, whose order book reads like a who’s who in retailing. Talbot Designs has produced over 200,000 domes; producing another 200,000 will now been even swifter.
In addition to the stock product of twenty-seven of the most popular sizes, Talbot Designs can produce Teedy domes in 160 sizes up to 2.2m in diameter.
