All was not as transparent for Sir Allen as Talbot’s multi-million dollar money-box
Sir Allen Stanford, anti-hero of numerous media stories today (18 February 2009), has been accused of less than transparent financial dealings by US regulators.
More transparent than his $8bn alleged fraud is the giant acrylic box with which Sir Allen is widely pictured and which was created by a specialist London company – Talbot Designs
This gigantic ‘money-box’ was specially-created acrylic case designed to hold £10 million ($20 million) for the 20/20 for 20 cricket prize, was created in north-London by Talbot Designs and delivered to Lords Cricket Ground for the ceremony in summer 2008.
The box was made from 10 mm clear-cast acrylic with fittings added to replicate a strong box. It was photographed at Lord’s in the company of England coach, Peter Moores, Curtly Ambrose, Sir Ian Botham, Sir Viv Richards and ECB chairman Giles Clark plus the apparently-disgraced Sir Allen Stanford, the Texan billionaire whose prize donation this was.
And for those with an eye for detail who don’t often see a cool £10 million, the dimensions needed to encase such a sum were: 90cms in height, 100cms deep by 130cms wide.
