Talbot Designs Grand Canyon or Bust cycle ride
Talbot Designs’ Managing Director, Richard Woolff, embarked on a sponsored cycle ride around the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This marathon cycle ride raised over £3000 for charities SANDS and HopeHIV.
The trip was organised and funded solely by Richard himself after a friend’s dare became a reality. Richard trained intensively for over 5 months in order to overcome the effects of high altitude cycling and physical exertion.
When asked about the challenges that he faced during the trip, Richard said: “I thought that the training I did would stand me in good stead for what lay ahead, but I hadn’t reckoned on the thin air being quite so thin. The trip was physically the hardest challenge I have ever undertaken”.
He also added: “I really thought, halfway through the first day as we were cycling to our makeshift camp, that I had bitten off more than I could chew for once. My lungs were aching from the thin air, my head and legs hurt from the effects of the 8500 foot altitude. The scenery, was however, stunning and quite worth the effort to get there.”
The Kaibab and Rainbow Rim Trails that he followed were little more than rough tracks picked through the rocky edge of the Grand Canyon.
Talbot Designs strives to achieve the impossible in all areas of plastic moulding. The company’s motto states that its work is limited only by the imagination of its clients and Richard Woolff’s marathon exertions reflect this do-or-die approach.
