Talbot Designs Relocating a Whole Factory
As part of Talbot Designs’s streamlining process to reduce waste and doubling up on running costs, we have now successfully combined both production sites into one factory. This means that all production and administration staff operate from our second factory in Long Lane. This has allowed us to save time wasted on movement of staff between the two sites as well as the associated energy and insurance costs.

Moving the equipment was quite a feat and required the services of a specialist haulage and crane company as the 5 tonne machines needed to be lifted out of the building and placed gently on the back of a transporter to travel the short distance to our second site. The forecast was rain and high winds all week and we obsessively checked the weather services right up until the moment of the lift. Anything over 20 metres a second and it was to be cancelled. An hour before the lift we crept up to 17 m/s and there were a few worried faces to be seen. Miraculously as the lift started, the clouds and rain shifted to another region of the country and we were blessed with light winds and even sunshine for the latter part of the day.
The lift was completed flawlessly within the Thursday and Friday and with a little bit of hard work over the weekend, we were operating as normal on the Monday. Well done to all the staff and contractors who made this, surprisingly, a most pleasurable experience. Not to be repeated too often we might add but nevertheless a smooth operation executed beautifully.
